Kenya’s dairy industry is continuing to move forward with increasing investment in genetics, breeding technologies, and herd improvement programs aimed at supporting productivity and long-term sustainability.
Against this backdrop, Norwegian Red genetics has now officially entered the Kenyan market through a new collaboration with FarmChance Ltd, a company engaged in livestock development and cattle genetics solutions in Kenya.
The partnership marks an important step in bringing Norwegian Red genetics to East Africa’s growing dairy sector, where farmers continue to look for balanced cows that can perform under a variety of production systems while improving profitability, fertility, animal health, and longevity.
Kenya is widely recognized as one of Africa’s leading dairy producers, with the sector playing a major role in food production, rural livelihoods, and economic development. At the same time, dairy farmers face familiar global challenges, including feed efficiency, fertility performance, disease management, climate pressures, and the need for cows that remain productive for longer periods.
These are areas where Norwegian Red genetics has gained international recognition. Known for combining milk production with functional traits such as fertility, calving ease, health, and longevity, Norwegian Red offers a breeding approach focused on sustainable and manageable cows suited for modern dairy farming.
The introduction of Norwegian Red genetics into Kenya follows a comprehensive approval process with Kenyan authorities, including the acceptance of Norway’s general health certification and additional veterinary documentation required for import approval. With the first approvals now completed, the foundation has been established for future cooperation and continued genetic development within the Kenyan dairy sector.
“The Kenyan dairy industry is developing rapidly, and we see strong ambition among farmers and industry partners to continue improving efficiency and sustainability.” - Ton van de Goor, VP International Sales for Geno Global.
“We believe Norwegian Red genetics can contribute positively by helping farmers build healthier, more fertile, and longer-lasting herds that support both profitability and everyday manageability. We are excited to work with Geno and introduce Norwegian Red genetics to Kenyan farmers, and we look forward to growing together in the years ahead,” says J.B. Cheruiyot, general manager of FarmChance Ltd.
The collaboration with FarmChance Ltd reflects a shared ambition to support dairy farmers with genetics that can contribute to stronger, healthier, and more efficient herds as Kenya’s dairy industry continues its positive development.
As Norwegian Red genetics begins establishing itself in Kenya, the partnership represents more than market expansion. It is also an opportunity to contribute to the future of dairy farming in one of Africa’s most progressive and fast-developing dairy markets.
